So you’ve decided to do Stand Up because u either always wanted to entertain the masses, simply a fearless fuck that’ll try anything once or saw someone and thought, “If they can do that, so can I.” Well lemme tell u something, this shit is hard. Insanely hard. But unimaginably rewarding if done right. You can be rocking bars and crappy open mics to headlining stadiums and TV shows and owning shit and shit. Basically, the world will be ur oyster. But before all the fame and glory comes the work. And believe you me, there will be work!!
I’ve been a working comic for 10 years. And I love it. The ups and downs and the highs and lows. The shitty pay, the long nights, the empty rooms and the endless arguments about what I’m doing and why I’m doing it. That’s comedy baby. It also makes for great material. Though I haven’t blessed the TV screen or performed for thousands of folks at once, I’ve rocked thousands of stages with hundreds of people and I think I kinda got the hang of this comedy thing (oooh, rhymed a lil).
If your young in this game the rules are simple: Stay single and stay at home. U control ur destiny a hundred times better when u don’t have a partner (BF or GF) in ur ear mad becuz ur performing and coming home from a performance working on ur next performance. Being broke is a comic’s life so it becomes a lot less stressful when ur writing and living under someone else’s paid for roof.
So instead of bogging u down with a thousand + more words, I’ll entertain u with my pretty mug and give u my 2 cents on what I believe works for comics to be successful. If not successful, at least consistent in the game. Hope u enjoy…I’m Out!
