"Laughing at the Future: Will AI Reign as the New Comedy King?"
How would you like to see this big, ugly fella on stage at your favorite comedy club tearing up the hardwood telling jokes?
Imagine going to your favorite comedy club and instead of myself or another of your favorite comics rocking the mic, there’s a humanoid robot in jeans and an elbow-patched blazer gracing the microphone. He/She/It is telling jokes – hilarious, well-written jokes. These jokes have been crafted from the robot’s Artificial Intelligence (AI) and they’re gooooooood! Scary, right? Yes it is. Because, not only is it probable, it’s likely that it will happen.
A humanoid robot with super intelligence and the ability to: understand our human intellect and reasoning, comprehend our ever changing emotional states and empathise with the day-to-day struggles we all have, will have no problem creating funny premises and punchlines.
I used to think that damn near EVERY job could be taken by AI – from the lowliest worker to the CEO and everyone in between but NEVER the comedian. I felt that robots/AI had no souls, no biological connection to real humans therefore, NO WAY IN THE WORLD could they do something as human as write and deliver comedy.
My mind has now been changed. I now believe that one day some ChatGPT infused humanoid will not only decipher the techniques required to compose good jokes but it’s super intellect will help with humanizing the material and delivering it effectively.
We can barely tell when an image or video or sound is produced by us anymore. How the hell will we know the real jokester from the mecha-median?
